Thousands of Victorian students and staff celebrated the fourth annual International Education Week which was held from 17 to 21 March 2008.
The Victorian Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development joined together to host a number of metropolitan and regional events to celebrate the contribution that international education brings to the State.
Welcome Receptions were held in Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Gippsland and Warrnambool. The Melbourne Reception was hosted by the State Government on Tuesday, 18 March 2008 with the State Minister for Education, the Hon Bronwyn Pike MP and the State Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation, the Hon Jacinta Allan MP providing the Opening Addresses.
Teachers, students, parents and communities were invited to initiate and participate in a range of activities in their own schools and communities to celebrate International Education Week. Some activities included:
- international music and dance performances
- seminar sessions on studying abroad, exchange or volunteering overseas
- interaction with your sister school or university overseas
- international cuisine and cultural days
- foreign film screenings
- day trips for international students or visits to historical sites.
