Melbourne is a truly multicultural metropolis so people will not feel unfamiliar with this lovely place when they first come to Melbourne. The city is well located in centre of Melbourne with a good transportation network. There are trams, trains and buses transporting people around Melbourne.

Melbourne is a city full of arts and sports. There are arts galleries and lots of street performances. There are lots of sports events held here, tennis, rugby, cricket and many more. The biggest one in 2006 was the Commonwealth Games. It show-cased Melbourne as an energetic and artistic city.

Melbourne is big but the transport network is efficient so I do not find it difficult to shop around town. People here are nice and friendly, and the clean environment makes me feel peaceful. I like the weather here, with its nice sunshine. It is not humid in summer. I think the weather feels good all year round.

When I first came to Melbourne, I encountered lots of difficulties including using public transport, buying food and accessing library facilities. I soon realized that people in Melbourne are willing to help people who are in need. I was shown how to purchase train tickets and taught about what kind of ticket I should buy. The friendliness of Melbournians is really impressive and surprised me a little.

I lived with two different Australian families for a year and a half. It was great as I learnt lots about the Australian culture. I tried a great variety of Western foods and enjoyed different Australian experiences with my homestay family. It was lots of fun. I now live in a private apartment which is very different to the home-stay. I have to deal with everything myself but I have gained lots of experience in cooking and doing laundry. It's pretty enjoyable. I think both types of accommodation are very good.

The university staff and teachers help the students a great deal. They guide us through our study, improve our problem-solving skills and our self learning abilities. There are sufficient notes, reference sources and assistance provided by the university staff. When confronting problems, I don't worry because there are plenty ways to gain help from the teaching staff, through e-mail, discussion boards and in person.

It is great to study in Melbourne as the quality of teaching is excellent. The direction of learning is clear and the lecturers try to use the simplest way to explain theories, like using multimedia technology and graphics. Students can easily form study groups and discuss issues in our spare time which improves our thinking and it makes our study more interesting.

I use the university's facilities. Amongst all the facilities here, I like the library the most. There are sufficient books and journals for our learning and research. The library has a very efficient online catalogue for searching and requesting books which saves us a lot of time when borrowing books from there. We can also borrow books from other libraries, which is convenient when we need books from other fields.

I will never forget my time in Melbourne. I feel good when I reminisce about the time since I first arrived. The time spent in home-stay families, studying at university and the recreational activities during weekends. The most impressive festival is the Moomba Festival. There was a parade, outdoor games and shows. The most exciting thing was the bath-tub dash which was a fund raising event. It was really funny. These are fun experiences that I have shared with my parents and friends.

I like jogging and playing music during my leisure time. I think I am going to try different sports like tennis because the sport facilities here are really good. I should not waste the chance to pick up a few different sports whilst here in Melbourne. People here like playing sports as well, so perhaps it is a good opportunity to make more friends.

I have traveled around Australia. I went to Adelaide for some sight-seeing and also for an interview. I did not stay there very long but it was a very impressive city. There are lots of traditional British-type buildings and museums. It is a must to visit Australian museums because there are lots of amazing and interesting exhibits.

I would advise students new to Melbourne not to bring with anxiety and nervousness, just bring with enthusiasm! New students may worry about communication in overseas countries. I can say people here are nice and will try to understand what we are saying. Just feel relaxed when talking with people and you soon will get used to speaking English with people in Melbourne.

There is a lot of beautiful scenery in Victoria. If I had to choose the best place for students to visit, I would choose Phillip Island. It is fabulous to see the little penguins running around. It was great because it is rare to see penguins, except on television.

I have not yet set a clear goal for myself after I complete my studies because there many variables in life. Most probably, I will choose to further my study because I think I cannot do much for society without adequate knowledge. Hopefully, I can be involved in far reaching work, investigate better medicines to improve the quality of our lives.

I would say to students considering coming to Melbourne that they may be homesick and feel a sense of loneliness when they first come to another country. Do not worry too much as it will not last for very long. After making more and more friends here, students will be used to living here and studying here. I hope everyone enjoys their time in Melbourne!
